Affordable Spa Getaway

Desert Hot Springs, located a few hours east of Los Angeles, boasts some of the best tasting municipal water in the world.  Located on natural hot and cold springs, the city water supply is simply excellent and contains no chlorine or fluoride additives.  Many of the inns and spas in the area have their own pumps and use water directly from the springs for use in pools and spas.  We had the joy of staying at the El Morocco Inn & Spa, which provided one of the most hospitable and friendly environments we've ever enjoyed.

The pool and sauna are wonderful and have natural mineral water constantly flowing through them (though they do contain a small amount of chlorine as regulated by the city).  There's an excellent range of range of spa treatments available, including an incredible whole body wrap using organic clay from Morocco.  A small two person dry sauna is also available for use.  The desert environment is naturally cleansing (the heat draws toxins out through perspiration), and combining this with plenty of pure water, detox and massage treatments, and your own fresh food, goes a long way to creating a high end spa experience.  There's also plenty of hiking in the area for the more adventurous.

Breakfast includes a variety of fresh fruit (as well as various other breakfast offerings), and delicious dates and figs are available all day.  Treat yourself to a happy hour cocktail each evening or simply sip on the divine water.  Be sure to bring a supply of fresh food since many of the rooms include a fridge and kitchenette.  It's also tempting to indulge yourself at a few of the local restaurants that boast some of the best food around including steak, Italian, Mexican, Thai, and Korean BBQ.

We highly recommend the El Morocco Inn & Spa for a quiet and intimate getaway, and especially enjoy supporting small businesses which provide the opportunity to spend time with the owners.  For example, by chatting with our hosts, we learned that the Inn is in the process of transitioning to all natural cleaning products and laundry soap -- and of course we discretely encouraged the transition and suggested soap nuts natural laundry soap.
